Hello there and welcome to the modding guide to get you up and running with a modded SkyrimVR!
There was no guide on ATF on how to mod skyrimvr for newcomers/beginners or someone just looking for references/links in handy location, so I decided to make one here with resources and links to get you started! :)
Feel free to expand on the subjects in the comments / write new topics and I will add them here into the main post!
Beginning resources
With these resources, you can pretty much do the whole modding by yourself if you know what you are doing!
1. -> Most of the mods that we'll be using, you can find here in the great Solus's SSE Conversions, Mods, and Patches. A part of them need some modifications for the SkyrimVR though, but we well go through that down below. https://allthefallen.moe/forum/index.php?threads/soluss-sse-conversions-mods-and-patches.9719/
2. -> A general SkyrimVR compatibility tracking page, with which you can check all of the basic mods and whether you can use them or not (there are no loli and shota mods here of course, but we'll go through that later). Remember to not comment anything related to ATF while visiting Loverslab, it is very important. https://www.loverslab.com/topic/167327-skyrimvr-compatibility-tracking-81721/
3. -> A really straightforward and clear guide for setting up Sexlabs in SkyrimVR from scratch: https://www.loverslab.com/topic/134393-how-to-sl-in-vr-step-by-step-tutorial/
4. -> More compatibility tracking for mods that work in Sexlabs VR: https://www.loverslab.com/topic/112984-sexlab-mods-that-work-in-skyrimvr/
5. -> For troubleshooting and additional installation information about the Sexlabs 7&8 VR patch: https://www.loverslab.com/topic/132489-skyrim-sexlab-and-vr/
6. -> ATF's own (non-VR) guide for Skyrim, use for reference and clarity if wanted: https://allthefallen.moe/forum/index.php?threads/beginners-guide-to-skyrim-modding.37/
1. Lets start
--> You will need to have SkyrimVR ready and downloaded. Also, you need your basic mod manager. I use Vortex and I'm making this guide presuming you are using it too. MM2 is a really good option too (thats what Ive read anyways), but this guide might not have all of the required stages needed for you to use it though, so you might need to do a little research. :)
First you will want to download all of the Solus's SSE Conversions, Mods, and Patches. The installation guides there should also be referenced there if wanted.
We will begin by checking "Solus's AIO Part 1 - Required" and the mods it contains. On the Solus's page, click on "Spoiler: Solus's Skyrim SSE AIO". Underneath you will find "part 1: requirements:" and inside that "Credits". This will show you the mods that part 1 contains. Now we will cross reference the mods to the SkyrimVR Compatibility tracking page, mentioned in the resources. Use ctrl + F in the tracking page, to easily search the mod from the page!
Ok, we are looking for mods, which:
A) Needs a VR patch
B) a completely different VR version
C) require other prerequisite mods to run in VR
D) OR the mod is only needed in flatscreen Skyrim so it can be disregarded.
The mods that can be used by themselves, we extract them out straight from the Solus's pack 1.
---> We need to have functional base mods for the other, later ones, to work. This is the part with the most manual labor involved, having to compile the different mods by yourself. I unfortunately don't remember the list anymore (Edit: maybe someone with time wants to list one in the comments after doing this? :)
After this, lets install all of the mods Except for PapyrusVR. Also notice the "SKSE64 and SSE Engine Fixes" in Solus part 1. Begin with installing their VR versions, and then go through installing your new "modified part 1".
After installing everything, here is Solus's installation video. You will want to see the part at about 4:30, about Bodyslide: https://allthefallen.moe/forum/data/video/528/528456-0aeb19c25155f24d7225a2c65891ecbd.mp4 Depending on if you are using MMO2 or Vortex, this is a bit different. Using Vortex, go to the folder SkyrimVR\Data\CalienteTools\BodySlide. Open Bodyslidex64, in the first window choose SkyrimVR, if needed specify the location, and follow the instructions in the video. :)
Lets also additionally install VRIK from Nexus mods, before continuing! I also recommend getting the "Realm of Lorkhan - Custom Alternate Start" mod, to get rid of the extremely buggy Helgen starting zone!
2. Lets continue
Now we have a good foundation built. From here on, it is easy sailing to get a good basic modded game going!
Lets install the rest of the Solus's modpacks in the correct order. From now on, most of them work straight out of the box! Pick the things you want to install from Part 2. and after that from part 3.
3. Its is time for Sexlabs
Now part 1, 2 and 3 are already installed aswell, good job! Lets continue to Sexlabs and its VR patching.
Here the third aforementioned resource is going to be really useful. Open the link: "guide for setting up Sexlabs in SkyrimVR from scratch" found in the beginning of the guide. You have automatically (hopefully!) already done the first three steps in the guide by now, congrats! Now lets continue with the fourth step and install "Solus's AIO Part 4 - Sexlab" and again cross reference like before if there are mods that do not work in Sexlabs VR, if they require additional patching, or different versions made for VR. Remember to include XssUtility! Other than that, just install the pack.
Ok. You have installed Solus's AIO Part 4 - Sexlab now and done the fourth step. Fifth step you have already done automatically through following the guide here.
Sixth step is installing PapyrusVR that you have already downloaded in the first part of this guide, but not yet installed.
Seventh step: Install the VR patch with VRIK integration. Ultimately though, you decide here. :)
Eight: Everytime you install, uninstall or update mods, remember to "Update FNIS Behavior", found in: SkyrimVR\Data\tools\GenerateFNIS_for_Users\GenerateFNISForUsers.exe Open the file, and click on "Update FNIS Behavior". There should be no warnings found after FNIS is done, if there are, you need to troubleshoot by reading the generated text above the button. They can easily lead to big problems in game, do not ignore them!
Nine: Opening the SkyrimVR via SKSEVR.exe in SkyrimVR folder. Starting a new game: In MCM settings and Sexlabs tab, in the far right hand side, you will find "install Sexlabs etc.), click on it, it'll say "Installing". Close the menu and while playing in game, you'll see texts of Sexlabs being installed. Wait for it to finish. After, double check and go see that the installation is complete in MCM and Sexlabs is installed. :)
(Optional 10.): You can also install other animations. For example Billyy animations + Billyy Petite animations, or whatever your heart desires, as long as it is converted to SSE or SE skyrim animations!
Second last thing: Here is a simple and well put text (written by kibazatzue, thanks to him!) of the necessary part when installing Sexlabs: Registering animations. --> "Regular sexlab animations are designed for adut-adult intercourse. You can align them manually using the hotkeys described in Sexlab's MCM "Player Hotkeys" tab (click on the link for a tutorial on manual alignment), if you want the real deal, you will need some specific adult-loli/shota animations like the ones from Latino and anubis. You can find them all in xxxUtility, not only that, xxxUtility will filter specific animation from it's list and will use the included SLAL to pick specific animations for adult-loli, adult-shota, shota-shota, etc. Please read carefully the instructions and prerequisites. Remember to register the new animations: go to the SLAL tab of the Mod Configuration menu (MCM), there click on the option to select all the animations and then click on Register, then click on Reset Animation Registry. It's recommended you check the Height filter in xxxUtility MCM tab."
You can also find additional mods and information/troubleshooting for Sexlabs VR in the "Resources" -section's links no 4. and 5.! :)
Oookay, now we are done here. Again, congrats for making it this far!
4. Let's add the final sprinkles and icing, and our ScakerimVR (omg this joke is so bad hahha) is complete
Sexlabs is now up and running. It is time for "Solus's AIO Part 5 - Locations" and "Solus's AIO Part 6 - Lolirim and Shotarim"
These parts are actually all optional. I am not sure how many of them work, as I have not visited all of the locations yet, and Part 6 I did not end up installing. They all should all work though, I have all of the Loli locations installed.
Other optional mods that work with skyrimVR (that I have installed and have worked sofar) are for example Skykids and BurnTyres More Children for Skyrim. Almost all of the mods for SkyrimSE work in general, but be careful with only installing one or two at a time and see that the game is still up and running.
Here are all of the ATF SkyrimSE mods: https://allthefallen.moe/forum/index.php?forums/mod-releases.6/&prefix_id=7
5. Additional resources and places to discuss/troubleshoot about SkyrimVR here in ATF
Remember to read the date of the comments, these threads have lots of information, bugs or things that haven't been possible at the time, that have gotten a lot better during the years! :)
--> SkyrimVR troubleshooting thread, also with functioning load orders from 2 users: https://allthefallen.moe/forum/index.php?threads/skyrim-vr-discussion-requests-troubleshooting.8725/ --> Another thread with krbb's first journey, with load orders and additional troubleshooting: https://allthefallen.moe/forum/index.php?threads/skyrim-vr-my-first-jurney.18852/
6. Important, only for Oculus users!
If you are running and Oculus device and the game is buggy when using Oculus PCVR via SteamVR to open up SKSEVR.exe to play, I strongly suggest you to try out Opencomposite, as it makes your playing experience so much better! Check it out here: https://gitlab.com/znixian/OpenOVR
"OpenComposite (previously known as OpenOVR - OpenVR for OculusVR - but renamed due to confusion with OpenVR) is an implementation of SteamVR's API - OpenVR, forwarding calls directly to the Oculus runtime. Think of it as a backwards version of ReVive, for the Rift.
This allows you to play SteamVR-based games on an Oculus Rift (or quest/quest2) as though they were native titles, without the use of SteamVR!"
7. Last words. This can be a community project, feel free to help refine this guide! :)
This took a lot longer than I initally thought, but I had such a hard time with the modding experience, that I decided that I have to do this for everyone here. No-one should have to do that again and I hope that this guide will get you to try out modding SkyrimVR, and hopefully streamline the modding experience for SkyrimVR.
Like I said before, feel free to: - Expand on any of the subjects, or write new ones. - Say if there is something that I could phrase differently, or if there are parts that have steps missing, unclear, etc.! - Anything else that comes to mind regarding this guide, feel free to share everything! :) I can try to update the guide with the new info suggested and commented! It would be best if you will write the ready text, so I can just copy paste to place, but not necessary. :)
I hope you enjoyed reading this, this was my first project for the lovely ATF community. <3 Best regards, Pfbsk.
