School Grades
(and everything about studying and classes)
Your boy will start behind compared to everyone else and will have to work hard to improve their Class Skills and Grades. When you go to class, a skill check is performed to see how well you did on your classwork and how well you understood the lesson. The level of this skill checks starts as Level 2 and increases by 1 every month, meaning you have to gain at least 1 level in each of your school skills every month. Passing this check will grant you Skill XP and an increase to your grade, while failing will only grant you a tiny amount of XP and lower your grade. In order to pass, you may need some additional help.
For your main 4 classes, Math, History, Science, and English, you can study at libraries to help. Studying will grant you a +10 bonus to your next class in that subject, which can be done a total of 3 times between every class, for a total bonus of +30 which will greatly increase your chances of success!
Studying only grants you a bonus in the class you studied in, so studying for Math will do you no good in Science. Likewise, your Study Bonus for said class will reduce by -10 after each class, meaning you will have to keep up studying for the full bonus.
Your school grade is a reflection of how well you are doing at school. Final Exams are not implemented yet, so your grades are based on your performance in the Mock Exam that happens every Friday.
Note that there is a distinction between Current Grade and Final Grade. This will be explained below.
There are 4 components that come into play when determining your grade. The components are expressed in the formula below.
- Final Grade = Current Grade + Study Results + Skill Level + Exam Score
Current Grade
Your current grade shows your current performance in a particular subject. The difference between current grade and final grade is that your final grade is determined by your exam results. You can have a very good current grade from studying a lot, but if you're having a terrible day during your exam, your final grade will reflect that.
When you start a new game, the grades for all of your subjects will start at C. You can check your current grade in the Character Menu under the Grades & Schedule tab.
As you attend classes or do your homework, your current grade will change.
Attending Class:
- Whether your grade will increase or decrease during class is based on a skill check.
- If you succeed the skill check, your grade will increase by 2 (4 if you have the genius trait).
- If you fail the skill check, your grade will decrease by 2 (4 if you are late to class).
- Your grade will suffer if you did not complete your homework. This is independent from the skill check, meaning the grade change stacks up.
- If you miss class entirely, your grade will decrease by 5.
Skill Check Success | Skill Check Success (Genius Trait) | Skill Check Fail | Skill Check Fail (Late) | |
Homework Completed | +2 | +4 | -2 | -4 |
Homework Not Completed | 0 | +2 | -4 | -8 |
Doing Homework:
- Doing your homework will increase your grade for all subjects by 1.
The following table shows your grade score and the corresponding grade.
Current Grade Score | Grade |
---|---|
98-100 | A+ |
93-97 | A |
90-92 | A- |
88-89 | B+ |
83-87 | B |
80-82 | B- |
78-79 | C+ |
73-77 | C |
70-72 | C- |
68-69 | D+ |
63-37 | D |
60-62 | D- |
50-59 | F |
0-49 | F- |
Study Results
Study results are your Final Bonuses. These points are different from Class Bonuses; whereas class bonuses control your performance during class, final bonuses add to your exam grade. These points accumulated when you study in the School or City Library.
Studying a subject once will give you give you 1 point with a maximum of 10 points for that subject. When calculating the grade for an exam, these bonuses are then multiplied by 10 to give you your study result.
The following table shows your study result points and their corresponding grade.
Study Results | Grade |
---|---|
100 | A+ |
90 | A |
80 | B+ |
70 | B |
60 | C+ |
50 | C |
40 | C- |
30 | D+ |
20 | D |
10 | F |
0 | F- |
Skill Levels
Skill Level is determined based on your skill in a particular subject. The higher your skill level, the higher your bonus.
Since the school difficulty level increases as the school year progresses, you will need to constantly level up your skill in order to stay ahead.
The formula for calculating this bonus is given below:
Exam Skill = School Difficulty - Subject Skill Level
The following table shows your exam skill and their corresponding bonus and grade.
Exam Skill | Skill Level Bonus | Grade |
---|---|---|
≤-1 | 100 | A+ |
0 | 80 | B |
1 | 70 | C |
2 | 50 | F |
≥3 | 0 | F- |
As an example of how this calculation works, at the start of the school year, the difficulty starts at level 2. If your skill level is 2, then your exam skill will be 0, which will give you a 80 point bonus.
To stay ahead, your subject skill level must be greater than the current difficulty level, so that you can get a 100 point bonus.
